The Wiggle collection by Max Lamb stems from an exploration of materiality. Presented in 2017, it consists of six round and square forms that recall architectural elements. They are slab-built or wheel-thrown in white clay. The surface is then carved by hand with a spiral metal wire, which creates a wavy, moving texture. The palette is made of matte glazes: midnight blue, white, moss green, purple, cream and royal blue.

Max Lamb is a designer who applies traditional methods and primitive materials to contemporary design. He explores unconventional processes, such as casting pewter into sand or working volcanic rock. His works are held in major museums, including the Design Museum in London and SFMOMA in San Francisco. Low and wide, it suits a coffee table or the centre of a dining table. Next to the royal blue square vase, it creates a play of heights and blues.

The Bitossi Ceramiche WIGGLE vase by Max Lamb is the lowest and widest form of the collection. Its round body is wrapped in deep wavy ridges, carved by hand with a spiral metal wire. A recessed foot makes the volume seem to hover above the table. The matte midnight blue glaze gives the texture a dense, velvety depth. It is a designer vase for short flowers, or a sculptural bowl-like piece, made in Tuscany. Seen from above, the ridges form a hypnotic pattern of concentric waves.
